Today, under cloudless skies and a robust sun, we caught the bus to Zihuatanejo to attend the Sunday meeting.
This is a congregation of about 40 and they're accustomed to visitors. Even the speaker was a six-year regular visitor from B.C. I was sitting under a ceiling speaker and the concrete walls effectively reflect sound so when the chairman introduced the meeting he sounded louder than I'm used to. And he was a particularly lively, enthusiastic chairman. So was the speaker. So was the Watchtower Study conductor. So was the reader. So was the prompt commenting. So was the singing. This meeting took off like a galloping horse and bounded to the end at an invigorating pace. Then, after the WT's concluding prayer, everyone applauded. Next time I attend here I'll be sure to fasten my seat belt. When it was over someone suggested a group photo. I got out my iPhone and seized the opportunity.
I spoke to a brother named Francisco who had made excellent comments. He's been a Witness for only 18 months. I asked him what was the main thing that moved him to become a Witness and he said, "The Bible!" In his previous church he said, "There were nice services and good singing but when people left the church building everything stopped. Nothing moved outside the building." From his own Bible reading he knew spreading the word was part of Christianity and had been doing it by himself on his own.
While waiting at the highway for the bus back to Ixtapa several police cars sped by with lights flashing. Did I say 'cars?' They are pick up trucks usually carrying in back officers with assault weapons. One of these vehicles came to a stop not far from us and two officers with automatic weapons in their hands rushed out each side of the vehicle. Their haste made me wonder if the weather was changing to 'possibility of bullets,' but it turned out they were just hurrying around the truck to exchange seats and take off again. You'd think they'd settle who should drive before starting the chase. Maybe it's about police union rules. After a certain time at the wheel the other guy has to take over come King Kong or Godzilla.
When we get off the bus we have a five minute walk to our place. Today, dressed up in our meeting clothes, walking under the Mexican sun with temps approaching 30 degrees C., it didn't take long to start melting.
Didn't see Charlie yesterday or today. Evidently he takes weekends off.
