We Arrive

The flight to Mexico was excellent with superb landings, which is my favorite part. While waiting in the Mexico City Airport we saw guards with muzzled dogs patrolling the place. The guards wore a type of muzzle too. It looked like a black surgical mask. I wondered if it might be to inspire a sense of teamwork in the dogs. We also happened upon a sculpture surfaced with colorful beadwork (see photo). It looked great but must have taken a colossal chunk of time to make.  We had only a modest Panini sandwich supper there because restaurants were scarce. We arrived at our condo about 8:30 pm, hungry but too tired to go out for food, so we survived the evening on crackers, bags of nuts from the plane, a chocolate bar and a bag of licorice. We were sure ready for breakfast when we woke up today.

This morning we walked the ten minutes to the Ixtapa commercial plaza. On the way we stopped at a Witness literature display manned by two brothers, one from Britain and one from B.C. both of whom live here now. We chatted a short while before getting back to our pressing objective of ordering breakfast. We did so in a pleasant outdoor restaurant. It is visible, sort of, in the background of the photo below. A bird temporarily occupied the table next to us. If he thought we might share our breakfast with him he seriously misunderstood the situation. If my pancakes hadn't come before he did I would have devoured him.

This afternoon we bought bottled water from a convenience store across the street, one of those huge blue jugs that hold what feels like a hundred pounds of water. I passed many amused smiles from passersby as I lugged it home. I wonder how much Spanish we'll be able to learn before we've left this country. I want to learn how to say, "Hey, this isn't funny!"
